Playing a sport was not an option growing-up. I became interested in swimming after I flopped miserably playing soccer for a number of years. I have always been a good swimmer and started learning to swim as a baby. I love the water. Swimming has taught me the value of consistency; consistency of effort, consistency of practice. My mother always told me that it is not the smartest or most talented that survive in this world but rather those that persevere and work-hard. I learned this first hand spring of 2020, being stuck at home during COVID, and my high school pool was closed. I became depressed, played video games all day and night, and got a D in math, my best subject. I had a choice; rollover and give-up or figure out a way to get over it. It was not easy, but I did get over it, got an A in Pre-Cal, while still being stuck at home, but I found a pool and swimming helped me find my way out.
I have an average to above average intellect and some natural talent in the pool. I am not flashy, but well liked by others: peers, adults, and, my favorite, animals. I am humble, but do love to compete, especially when I come out on top.
