Engineering begins with knowledge of mechanics and a skill set to cultivate practical applications out of the seemingly complex. My strong desire to pursue an engineering degree has caused me to view my passion to swim and compete collegiately in similar light. It also requires knowledge and the understanding of my natural skill set to simplify my development. Swimming has always been something I have done as a leisure activity. However, last spring my competitive spirit consumed me as I became obsessed with winning. Since then, my personal best has dropped from 6:29 to 5:49 from sophomore to junior year; as I continue to get stronger and develop each year this time will continue to drop along with my other events. This was also only with an extra 2 months of training, now I have an extra 9 months. I believe that with increased strength, maturity and proper instruction on my stroke mechanics I will excel as a swimmer at the collegiate level. The greatest asset that I possess as a student/athlete is my desire to win, which in most cases becomes contagious throughout my team.
