My interest in competitive swimming began when I was only 8 years old after a local swim instructor recommended I try out for our local club team, The Southington Rays. Little did I know that a simple conversation would change my life so dramatically. I instantly became addicted to the concept of always trying to be better than the day before. I have always listened to my coaches and seek advice to help me improve. This mindset follows me as I continue my journey to college, in and out of the pool, as both a student and an athlete.
During my 8 years as a swimmer, I have accomplished many things. Swimming has helped me to make lifelong friends, keep me motivated to achieve my goals both in the water and academically, as well as help me to learn perseverance. I have seen success in the pool and I have faced challenges. I have swam on the varsity swim team all three years of my high school career, and obtained a spot on the team’s state finalist 400 free A relay team as a freshman. I also achieved CT Top 16 in the butterfly in 2015, as well as Rookie of the Year in 2018 and CT scholar athlete in 2020. My goal oriented take on the sport has allowed me to score multiple records for my club team as well as put me in striking distance of some high school records. The bond I share with my teammates is strong and together we formed a team that raised money for cancer patients as we raced in the “Swim Across the Sound event,” swimming 16 miles across Long Island Sound in 6 hours. Despite the many hurdles I have had to face as an athlete, I always strive to come back stronger than before.
As a student I have also been able to accomplish many things. In middle school I was elected into the National Junior Honor Society and applied for our high school’s honors Engineering Program, Project Lead the Way. I was proud to be one of the 32 out of 650 students in my eighth grade class who was selected to be a part of the program. I have taken many honors and AP level courses. My hard work and dedication in the classroom has led me to maintain a 4.0 GPA all while continuing to perform in the pool.
