My name is Miguel Turcios and I live in Clearwater, Florida. I swim for the Clearwater Aquatic Team under Hall of Fame and Olympic coach Randy Reese.
A little bit about myself, I was born in Guatemala, and moved to Florida a little over a year ago. I am an international student at the Canterbury School of Florida, with a 4.21 GPA and taking 6 college courses. The reason why I moved to Florida was to train under honorable coach Reese to achieve the 2020 Olympic Trial times. I've been selected to represent my country at the 2nd UANA Swimming Cup, event to be celebrated this proximate February in Lima, Peru. I'm also on the preselection team to begin the olympic cycle at the 2021 Central American Games, on the road to the 2024 Olympic Games. I've represented my club at various national and international meets, including the 2017 World Junior Swimming Championships. This past November, I represented my school at the 1A FHSAA State Swimming Championships, finishing in 6th place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.10 and 9th in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing in a time of 59.39.
I need a college that can assure my successful representation of my country for the next four years. I might not be the fastest on your team, however, I am a perseverant and coachable person that has demonstrated almost a linear progress throughout my swimming career.
My goals for this long course season include going 2:08 in the 200 IM, 59 in the 100 backstroke, 1:06 in the 100 breaststroke, 30.7 in the 50 breaststroke and a 2:09 in the 200 backstroke. This to represent Guatemala at the 2020 Central American and Caribbean Amateur Championships.
