Throughout my life I have always been a competitive person. Whether it be a pick up basketball game or a card game, to a race in the State Finals. During a race, winning is my top priority. No matter if the heat sheet predicts I will lose considerably, I dive into the pool believing I can pull off a miracle. My parents have always supported me no matter the outcome and I love seeing their smiles after my races because it gives me a sense of acknowledgment. My friends are not only supportive during my races, but they take the roles of my rivals to better myself inside and outside the pool. I became interested in the sport when I watched Michael Phelps place 1st (again) in the 200 IM during the 2012 London Olympics. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen at the time. I've learned many things throughout my time as a swimmer. I've learned the importance of dedication, discipline, and resilience. Swimming 2 to 3 hours a day for 6 days a week requires lots of dedication since it takes up most of your life and free time. Attending practice and listening/applying what your coach instructs showed me that good discipline led to faster times. And the resilience from losing races to incredible swimmers kept me from being discouraged and doubting my potential.
My academic goals for high school are to graduate with my Full IB Diploma, earn a high GPA, score high on the SAT and ACT, and leave a mark on my high school swim team. In college, I want to become an Industrial or Civil Engineer and graduate with at least a Bachelor's Degree. Throughout my childhood, I moved countless times to many different places. I've lived in Florida, Spain, France, Ireland, and Georgia. All this moving meant I had to change schools, meet new friends, and accustom to the teaching of each school. Nonetheless it provided me with the ability to socialize and adapt to my surroundings. I am a very quick learner and I can apply what is taught to me instantly. If my coach tells me to keep my chest low in the water during Breaststroke, I immediately practice what he advised and seek approval. As a three-sport athlete and current captain, I believe that I have what it takes to be an impactful member of your program!
