Personal Statement

Swimming has been a part of who I am for my entire life. I've been in the pool since the moment I was able to walk, and I started swimming summer league when I was 5 years old.

It wasn't until joining my high school swim team, however, that I started craving a desire to improve. I really started to take things to the next level when I decided to join a club team near the end of my junior year. Starting club swim so late into my swimming career was difficult. Most of my peers had years and years of rigorous club swim training under their belt, which made it hard for me to catch up. However, since that moment, I have seen a tremendous amount of improvement in every area and field of my swimming, and I'm nowhere close to stopping. The difference between the rest of my high school peers and myself is that, because I have only been doing club swim for a short time, I believe I have a very high ceiling when it comes to my swimming potential, while most club swimmers have already peaked when it comes to their performance. I have seen significant improvement at every meet and practice, and I still have so much room to learn and grow. I believe that becoming a collegiate athlete would give me the opportunity to unlock my true swimming potential that has been tucked away for so many years.

I have also spent most of my high school years as a swim coach and team captain for various teams, and I am confident that I can use this leadership experience to motivate myself and others to work hard as I continue to pursue swimming at the next level.
