Aloha!
My name is Akira Williams, and I am writing to you because I have the strong desire to swim in college. I would love to have the opportunity to race in college with a team full of people to challenge: This is such a big thing for me because living on Kauai there are limited opportunities for racing and challenge. I love the environment of high pressure physically and mentally, so I have to push myself to the absolute maximum. When I push myself to the limit I get a feeling that can only be achieved through grit and hard work, and this feeling is the reason why I get in to swim even on the worst days.
As my island home is surrounded by water, swimming is a crucial part of life in Hawaii. As a child, I had multiple near-drowning experience. These experiences got me into swim lessons. I remember during lessons I would look at the deep end of the pool and look at the swim team practicing. Soon after that I set a goal: to get over where they are. Immediately after I finished lessons I signed onto the swim team at the same pool. After working from the lowest swimming group to the best of the best in the state, I have some new goals to set: to benefit my college team to help them be the best they can be, while becoming the most successful swimmer/person I can be.
Academically, I attend a public school, and I am in all honors classes for my sophomore year.
