Personal Statement
My name is Zeke Chan, I am from the small country of Brunei Darussalam. I am a student athlete that swims for the Brunei National team who also attends Jerudong International School. I started attending swim lessons at the age of 9 but I started swimming competitively at the age of 11 with my childhood swimming club Mabohai swimming Club.
Over the years, I have had other interests such as playing the drums, playing basketball, boxing and various other activities. However, swimming has remained my number one passion throughout all of these activities and I have never let any of these other hobbies hinder my performance in the pool.
I train 9 times a week (twice a day on Monday, Thursday and Saturday), I still work hard in the classroom, achieving 6 A*'s 1 A and 2 B's for my IGCSE Edexcel course.
Although my swim team is small, I have made an extremely strong bond with them over these years and consider them as some of my closest friends. When training is especially tough, I try to keep things light hearted to keep my team in high spirits.
These will by my final two years in school doing the International Baccalaureate and as I prepare for university I truly want swimming to be part of that experience. However, I am still undecided about what course I want to take. Through swimming in university, I want to make new friends and hopefully become an even better swimmer along the way as my dream is to make the qualifying times for the Olympics. I am ready to work extremely hard throughout these years and hopefully become a great swimmer as well as a great student.
