Personal Statement
"Joachim Zerelli would make a fine candidate for any college swimming program. He has exceptional leadership skills through his actions both in and out of the water and has been a distance swimmer that does not shy away from hard work. I also like that he covers a range of freestyle events from 200 up to 10000 meters."
Darren Tullberg, Head Coach Kew Swimming Club
I have been swimming since I was four ears old and competitively since I was 8 years old . Since I first jumped in the pool, I have aspired to swim at the collegiate level or even further. I know that swimming in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.
I am a very competitive swimmer with the technique and times to succeed at the collegiate level. I am a team leader and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working swimmers and one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find. I am ranked 15th in 1500m in Australia for my age group. Since 2014 I have been swimming open water and in 2016 I placed 7th in 10k at the Australian Open Water Championships. I have also represented my school in water polo and have played a couple of matches in the Senior team and in 2016 became the Captain of Sophomore team.
In the classroom, I study hard and maintain a high GPA. I enjoy History and English as subjects. I also take part in Australian Army Cadets where I hold the rank of Lance Corporal.
I want to attend a college where I can study Political Science, in an environment where I can push myself in the classroom and in the pool. I ultimately want to find the right college, and I aspire to become a great role model to all my peers and make my parents proud.
