Personal Statement
My name is Tymour Marawan, and I am a 16-year-old competitive swimmer in Dubai. I am an American citizen originally from Egypt but have spent my entire life here in the UAE, where I began my swimming journey. My goal as a competitive athlete is to study at a prestigious university, where I will excel athletically and academically, and hopefully pursue my interest in architecture and design. I believe I am a good candidate for swimming in a college-level team, firstly, because of my long experience with the sport. I have been a swimmer since I was 2 years old, and have obviously grown drastically, both physically and mentally over the past few years, especially as I started swimming competitively at such a young age. In addition to that, my experience with swimming at a national level in Egypt, at both regionals and nationals. Moving on, I believe the traits and skills I have acquired such as leadership and determination, will put me in a great spot for swimming at university. I have experience in grade 9, being the Junior Varsity Swim Team Captain, and, in addition to that, being the Varsity Swim Team Captain both in grade 10 and currently. With this experience, I was able to take away and improve my leadership, teamwork skills, spirit, encouragement, and commitment, which I believe are all extremely valuable to college teams. However, something that makes me different from other recruits is definitely my balance, time management, and consistency. Over the past two years in high school, I have trained at an average of 8 swim sessions a week and still managed to achieve a 4.0 accumulative GPA. Furthermore, my academic achievements and experience make me a valued member of the National Honor Society at my school, Dubai American Academy, as well as the founder of two student-led clubs, the Heroes of Hope Club, and the Architecture Society Club.
