Youssef Elhelw '26 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Youssef Elhelw, I have been swimming since I was 3 and I started pursuing it competitively when I was 10 years old. 
I first started swimming in a club in Dubai called Fit Republik, from there on I had been training with different clubs until my most recent club Speedo. 

I always enjoyed swimming which is why I joined the swim team at my school Dubai American Academy where I have been on the varsity swim team since the 7th grade. I spend my summers in Egypt, my home country swimming on the beaches of a place called the North Coast, I have experienced multiple training camps with my school team locally as well as internationally such as in Greece, Spain, Qatar and Egypt.

From these competitions I have won several awards including 3 bronze medals 5 silver medals and 1 gold medal within MESAC alone I have several other awards such as a bronze from the Dubai school games silver medal from the Dubai triathlon 2 trophies for the 800 and 1 mile in a competition by race.me this clearly shows my extensive time and effort I have put into the sport.

I am very dedicated to this sport at all times and I do my utmost to always attend training no matter what. One great quality I possess is that I am a team player even though swimming is an individual sport. I do this by always stepping in to do the races my teammates are not able to do, just so our team could get the points, and always putting 100% of my effort into all races. 

I am also well aware that swimming is a very demanding sport, not only mentally but physically as it is one of the few sports that requires the swimmer to use every muscle and body part; meaning you are required to do training outside of practice to perform to the best of one's ability. That is why I go to the gym and work on stamina, abdominal strength, upper body, and lower body. While dedicating so much time to this sport, I never fail to listen to my body when it needs rest and take care of my mental health. 

I have also felt as if I had a special connection with the water as I have done various water sports which include kitesurfing, surfing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, diving, waterpolo and swimming. This goes to show how much I enjoy water sports in general and can show that I have a flexible mind and that I am willing to try many new things and strive to succeed in them. 

Lastly I would just like to say whatever team I am apart of I will give 100% of my effort and 110% of my commitment.
