Personal Statement
My name is Angus Holcombe and I am a dedicated and successful swimmer and student. I am an American, Guatemalan and Dutch citizen who lives in Guatemala and is completely bilingual in English and Spanish. I am a swimmer that is a “Preselected Athlete” by the Federación Nacional de Natación de Guatemala. This means that I have achieved certain times and therefore I am taken into account for national and international competitions.
I swim both at the American School of Guatemala and with my club team, Waterproof. On both teams I participate in many competitions. I swim on the national circuit in Guatemala (Long Course Meters) with my club team. With my school I compete in citywide events and AASCA (The Association of American Schools of Central America). I feel like I push myself and my team to do better. I want to swim at university because I love swimming, I will be an asset to a team, as I am now, because of my dedication to my development as a swimmer and being a strong member of a team.I also really want to continue being a part of a swim team because I enjoy the sense of community.
I am in 11th grade here at The American School of Guatemala and look forward to continuing being a strong student. I am very open to going anywhere and I have yet to decide exactly what I want to study in university. I feel comfortable keeping my options open for the time being. I am a respectful, hardworking student who is excited to learn new things.
