Albertus Bangun '21 Recruiting Profile

My goal is to be the best version of myself in swimming and my academics. I have been intensely motivated to get into colleges in the U.S, as well as improving myself to be a better athlete and as a student each day. I’ve been swimming competitively for more than 9 years and have won numerous medals in the Nationals and International events. I’ve been training under the Millennium Aquatic Club, which is the best swimming team in Indonesia which have been the top ranked swimming team throughout Indonesia for 5 years and have been winning the Nationals for 4 consecutive years. I’ve also been appointed team captain for my club. 

What makes me different from other candidates is the outstanding records I achieved for my times.  My most honorable achievement would be my 200m butterfly, where I had been able to be considered part of the top 10 fastest swimmers of all time in Indonesia, swimming at the time of 2.05.94 when I was only 15 years of age. Not to mention, I also participated in International events like the World Cup, qualified for the Finals at the FINA Swimming World Cup Singapore 2019 and had won more than 10 National events for my age group. As for my other strokes, I can be considered fast enough. 

From the academic side, I am currently studying at Beacon Academy Jakarta, undertaking the IB Diploma program. The IB Diploma program itself is the toughest curriculum in the world since its top priority is time management. This made it difficult for me to keep up with my swimming as I had to be able to balance my school life and swimming life at the same time. Despite that, I was able to score a 32/42  for the diploma program. 

As a student-athlete I am more than proud to represent my country into the International level that I had been into. As well as being proud of myself as I was able to cope on catching up with my study despite the limited time I have. I’m confident that my parents and coaches are immensely proud of what I achieved as a student-athlete.
