Personal Statement
My name’s Harry Stacey. I’m 23 years old and I'm looking forward to furthering my academic and athletic careers.
I graduated from Secondary School in 2016. I completed my A levels in 2018. Since then I've been swim training in various locations (Scotland, Malta, England & Ghana). I worked part time as an assistant swim coach and later on as an Associate Head Coach. I've also been working as a Pilates Reformer Instructor.
I haven't competed or attended a university since my graduation so my eligibility should be fine. Currently undergoing verification now with the NCAA. My NCAA ID# 2311172612
I’ve lived, trained and competed in 5 different countries over the course of my career with the latest being Ghana. I’ve been there for the past 2 years and have been self-coached for the majority of that time period.
Despite poor training facilities, falling ill with Covid on multiple occasions and relying on myself to get the best out of me with my training, I’ve been able to recently swim some lifetime bests. Those times were swum on only 2 months of training and with an injury to one of my fingers, so I expect to swim a lot faster once I’ve had some good, consistent training and have recovered from my injury.
My goals as an athlete have always been to be my best self and see how far I can go in the sport that is swimming. Representing Ghana on the international stage, I hope to compete at the African and Olympic Games this upcoming 2024 Summer. With the help of a college swim program, I'd hope to take my abilities to new heights and become a top 20 athlete in the world for my respective events.
I do have 5 years experience as a swim coach alongside having swum for the majority of my life and I believe I could be a great asset to the team, not just through my athletic performances but also as a group leader.
Ultimately, I’m looking to find a home where I can give my all for my team-mates and have consistency with my training. Hopefully, this can be found with your swim program and we can all reap the rewards.
In regards to the academic side of things, I've always had an interest in technology and electronics as a whole. Ever since I was young, I would find myself taking things apart and putting them back together just out of pure curiosity.
This curiosity has only grown and has led me to spend 1000s of hours researching enthusiast computer technology over the years, resulting in a burning desire to further my education at an elite university with an engineering program that I could excel at.
I've spent a year working in the tech field, often helping with hardware and software diagnosis as well as building several computer systems of my own: some for personal use and others for crypto mining.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that I can serve as a good asset to your university. I am extremely driven and would like to achieve my goals with your help.
Thanks, Harry.
