Personal Statement

Well, I'm the first one in my family who's actually going to college. I want to make a change for the better to future generations. I consider myself to be a very disciplined person which, when aiming to get something, works very hard in order to get it. Besides, I like to challenge myself by doing difficult things because this drives me to become a hard worker man which is what I aspire to be. Alongside that, I'm an athlete (swimmer) who strives to be the one of the greatest in the future and I believe that a college’s swim program is a crucial step towards going pro.

Since the beginning, I’ve been pushed by my family to become something of myself… I tried many different sports, but there’s one that, from a young age, really caught my attention. That was swimming; a sport that has become an integral part of my life. Years of training led me to represent the Dominican Republic as a candidate for its national swim team. Now, living in the U.S., everyday I’m motivated to be better than yesterday, and this encourages me to train and train with the sole purpose of making the time standards of a NCAA division I.  I strongly believe that with my discipline, I’ll push through and make it to the top, as one of my biggest goals is making it to the Olympic level of swimming.

Back in the Dominican Republic, I was captain of a small local team called “Alpha Aquatics RD”, I wanted to be a role model to the younger kids. Despite being a small team, thanks to this role, I was able to strengthen my sense of leadership, aiming not only to be a pro but to share these values that shape me with other people.

My values, shaped by my Dominican grandparents who raised me, include kindness, respect, and generosity. They taught me to give back and to appreciate others' doings. These lessons inspire me to embrace diversity and foster meaningful connections with others. Something I've learned along the way is that the key to success is a positive attitude. Perseverance and optimism have become my guiding principles. It’s pretty simple, when I smile at the universe, the universe will smile back. I firmly believe that a positive outlook is the driving force behind all achievements. Success is not measured by the number of achievements, but by the happiness we experience on the way to them.

I’m eager to bring my mindset to college, contributing to a vibrant community while pursuing my personal and professional goals.
