Personal Statement
My name is Oskar Iwarsson and I'm from Stockholm, Sweden. I’m 17 years old but will turn 18 in April 2018, and will therefore graduate from high school in June 2019. I started off swimming when I was about 7 years old and I've loved the sport ever since. Since I’m graduating from school next year I have thought a great deal about going to the U.S and combine the academics and athletics, which would be great since my aspirations in both are high.
Talking about swimming. My most memorable results in my career is a gold medal competing for Sweden at the Nordic Junior Championship last year and also a gold medal at the National age group championship three years ago. The former gold medal was 100 fly and the other 200 fly. I have also finished second and third in these competitions multiple times. I've represented the Swedish national team three times over the last three years, which is something I’m extremely proud of.
My strength as a swimmer is my underwater-kicks and my great finish the last 50 meters, especially in 200 fly where I usually have my second fastest lap in the last 50 meters. I practice 18 hours a week, 13 hours swimming and the rest is gym and dryland training. The area where I believe I can improve the most is in the gym since I've just been training at the gym for about two years, which means there are improvements to be done.
I have had a dream of being a college swimmer for many years and I'm prepared to work hard to get there. I believe in myself and feel like I could contribute to the college team, both in terms of great results but also to keep up a good spirit in the team.
My personality is always positive and I’m always seeking new friends and love socializing. To be able to attend an American college would be a great experience for me and I‘m looking forward to contribute.
