Personal Statement
My name is Javier Lai. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, I'm a highly motivated teenager wishing to swim at the collegiate level. I currently train with Melbourne Swimming Club and represent my school, Melbourne High School, at State level. I represent both my club and the state of Victoria at National level. To make for a good swimming and academic balance, I usually train 7 times a week.
I specialise in short to mid distance Breaststroke and Freestyle. I have qualified for the Australian Age Swimming Championship 2 years in a row and achieved top 10 in the 50m Breaststroke and top 20 in the 100m Breaststroke in 2024. Later in the year, I broke the meet record for the Victorian Metropolitan All Junior Championship in the 50m Breaststroke.
I was accepted into Melbourne High School via a public exam. It represents the top 5% of students across the state.
I also play Water Polo at the inter-school level and currently, I am a member of the Air Force Cadets.
I am looking forward to finding a school which can help me thrive in both my academic and swimming career.
