- 2019 Highlights
Personal Statement
I have been swimming for a long time, competitively for about 10 years, and have always told myself that balance with school must come before anything else. In addition to swimming, I also play tennis, and have played lacrosse for my high school. This year, I was chosen as captain for my swim club, Tornadoes Swim Club, one of the leading clubs in Jamaica, and it has been one of the most amazing responsibilities I have ever received. I also accompany my club to various meets in Florida, in cities like Orlando, Jupiter and Fort Myers. I have represented my country at the Goodwill Swimming Championships in Barbados in the summer of 2018, and I will be going again to compete at the Goodwill Games this summer in Suriname.
I have always maintained a healthy balance between my school work and my athletic goals, and over the course of my high school life have made sacrifices in both, that I think have paid off. For instance, last year, for my CSEC examinations, I placed 5th in the Caribbean for Economics, 9th in the Caribbean for Information Technology, and in Jamaica, 3rd in Economics, 5th in I.T., 9th in English Language and English Literature and 10th in Biology. As of this year, I'm currently taking the IB Diploma Program and have maintained a constant GPA of over 4.0. I have achieved Honor Roll with Distinction for both semesters this year and have also received the Gold President's Award for Educational Excellence. I have always tried to let my work ethic mean something, and I have worked so hard to achieve what I have. I really try to do my best in whatever I am doing, even if it means sacrificing something else, and I have kept that thought process throughout high school. To achieve my academic awards my training had to suffer a bit, but after the work at school, comes the work in the pool and I really pushed myself this year, and have made the national team once again. I am looking for a school that values working hard, and will give me a challenge in both the classroom and the pool, and whatever school that is, I'm sure will be right for me.
