Personal Statement
At the age of four my Dad took the training wheels off my peddle bike and I never looked back. I remember the feeling of accomplishment and confidence as I rode away smiling as my Mom and Dad chased after me nervously yelling “slow down, be careful!” From that moment to others very similar I loved the feeling of being able to set a goal and accomplish it.
I relate accomplishment to my Father who started his own mobile business as a mechanic. My father was not fortunate to attend College or University. But he was able to provide for our family and give me the opportunity to experience first-hand how an individual can succeed in business. My Mother works for a reinsurer, she has managed to climb the corporate ladder and is very competent and successful. I believe my parents traits of innovation and dedication inevitably inspired me to pursue business with a committed passion.
Growing up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, on an Island known as Bermuda, has come with many challenges. Because of the size of the Island we are limited to our 21 miles. We are limited to the number of pools to train and compete in and limited in the competition which is required to improve. Because of this you become more responsible for your motivation and drive to succeed. There are only a handful of schools you can attend. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend Warwick Academy (WA) which is a private school on our Island. Warwick Academy has taught me a variety of skills that allow me to overcome obstacles as well as provide me with an amazing education. Academics has always been of the utmost importance to me. I have achieved the Principal’s List Sport for my outstanding participation in athletics annually since Primary School. I have been away on several International trips to compete overseas for Triathlon, Swimming and Volleyball. Being able to represent my small country and school in various ways is a great honor considering I have dedicated many hours of practice into my athletics. As a result, I’ve earned numerous medals and achievements from both swimming and triathlon. I have recently picked up volleyball, the National Coach approached me about my ability in the sport. Within five months, I was invited to go away with the team. This demonstrates my drive to succeed in whatever I set my mind to. Motivation has also been a key element in my success as I have maintained a sturdy and driven mindset throughout my entire life. Being a student athlete teaches you balance and time management which is essential.
I am presently undecided on what direction I’d like to take in regards to my studies, although I have a strong desire to pursue Business. I am hopeful that the new experiences that I will gain from studying overseas will help me identify which path I want to take and whether Business studies is still in the forefront. I intend to join various clubs to explore new hobbies and possible avenues that help me in choosing a path in business. I am excited at the prospect of meeting new people that will help shape my future and personality in being the best version of myself. There is no way to predict how my future will involve from such a significant life change in leaving my home for college. However, I’m prepared to embrace both the favorable and unfavorable times that college may bring and I am excited for what the future has in store for me.
