Personal Statement
Swimming is my passion and I have been competing since I was 7 years old. My dream is to study Finance in America and train towards my goal of representing Zimbabwe in the Olympics. I would love to experience life in a 1st world country and meet all different types of people. Coming from a 3rd world country I have been limited to training at a small club with my dad, no heated pool or strengthening coach. Life in Zimbabwe has its challenges where electricity and water cannot be taken for granted so I feel that I appreciate things better and have learnt how to always make a plan to overcome difficulties.
I know how to come back stronger from setbacks. I broke my arm at age 12 just before starting high school and despite not being allowed to play sports for 6 months, by the end of the following year I made National water polo and represented Zimbabwe in swimming again following on to break 14 Provincial and 1 National record for various strokes and have represented Zimbabwe in Mozambique, South Africa, Mauritius, Ireland and will be competing in Botswana in December. This makes me unique and I can bring a different perspective to the table.
I have been made captain for swimming at my club, school, province and country. Last year I was chosen to be 1 of 7 Lower 6 prefects at my school and was re-elected again this year. I have played Provincial hockey, water polo, squash and extensive swimming throughout my high school years, yet managed to maintain my grades and pass all 8 of my IGCSE (O Level exams), all 3 of my AS exams and am about to write 2 A’Level exams in Business Studies and Maths.
With Olympics as my goal in swimming I know all the hard work and dedication that lies ahead of me and am ready to start the next chapter.
