My name is Brett Dipuma. Swimming has always been an immense part of my life. I began swimming for a summer league team when i was 4 years old and then when i entered the 6th grade i began swimming club. Once i entered the 8th grade and began attending Jesuit, I stopped swimming to play football and did so until my sophomore year when i suffered a concussion and decided that I would go back to my natural home of swimming. So I started swimming again and with a lot of work i have been getting better. Since I started swimming again I have shown Great improvement from my first 100 fly of sophomore year being a 1:08 to the 55:2 it is now within about a year. or a 25:6 to a 22:99 in the same amount of time. I will continue to work hard and continue to drop time by practicing often and working hard. I have and will continue to bring a high motor and great work ethic with a smile if I am blessed with the amazing opportunity to be able to continue my swimming career in college.
Swimming in college while being able to obtain a dual major in theology and education with a minor in psychology would be an absolute dream. I maintain a gpa above a 3.0 while being extremely active in my school. I leave home by 6:30 every morning to get to school and I try to go to mass in the morning as frequently as possible. Often I do not get home until 7:30 because of practice and i still manage to get all of my school work done and get to bed at a reasonable time. I practice in the morning 3 times a week waking up at 3;45 so I can eat and make it to the pool for 5:30 and get a good morning wok out. I try my best at practice and try to set the tone for everybody else there whether it be by encouraging or always by example. I always keep the motto "last one fast one" to give whatever is left for that last one.
I have been elected captain for the 2013/2014 swim season which is an immense honor and responsibility that I will do my best to accomplish humbly and well. I am also extremely active outside the pool. I am president of Jesuit's Urban Farming Club, A member of the Sodality of Our Lady, Am currently working on obtaining my Eagle Scout, I am the S3 officer in the MCJROTC, A member of the student campus ministry, A peer support facilitator, A big Brother for Jesuit, I teach Catechism on Monday nights to public school kids, I am the current altar server of the year for my church parish, I am a member of CYO, and I play Ultimate frisbee for Jesuit.
I love swimming and would love to be able to swim in college, and it would be an absolute dream for me to be able to swim in college. I will continue to work hard to make this dream come true and hopefully the guiding hand of Providence will lead me to the right school to complete this goal.
