Hello, my name is Benjamin Thoms. I am 18 years old and a junior at Chelsea High School, Chelsea MI. I am 5'10", and around 150 pounds and concentrate in distance swimming. I have been swimming since I was eight years old and I have embraced the challenge to constantly improve my swimming technique and times. I have been told that I am a hard worker and was awarded the first "Hardest Worker Award" for my high school team in 2012 and 2014. I have been a state qualifier for the past two years, finishing 12th in the 500 free in 2013 along being a conference divisional finalist. For the past couple of years I personally have concentrated on my high school swimming rather than USA swimming with my club team. My high school team is in the position to is in position to challenge for the State Championship in the 2013-2014 season. I have also encourage my high school team mates to train smarter and harder since the end of last season. Will see what happens in March of 2014. This past summer I also began swimming open water events up to 5K and plan on longer distances this coming summer.
I currently have a 3.31 GPA, and rank 143 out of 205 in my class and plan on taking the ACT in spring of 2014.
My collegiate swimming goals is to swim for a program that wants me as a distance swimmer; a program that is striving to improve as a team and get the most from each swimmer; a team that works, swims and wins together; a swim program that also want s their student/athletes to perform in the classroom and has an educational support system to assist the student/athlete to reach their educational goals. I am open to large and small schools but prefer a small classroom environment. I am undecided in what I like to study in college, but I enjoy business courses, math, biology, history, and I am thinking of coaching in the future.
My goals in college swimming are to work hard and reach my full potential in the pool and the classroom and to be the best I can be in both endeavors. Thank you for your time and consideration.
