My swimming career started in India when my family was living as an expat for 5 years. The American International School of Chennai had a swim team which competed against other international schools in Delhi, Mumbai, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Nepal. The competition was not as fast as US swimmers; but it was fun! I was awarded Most Valuable Swimmer and set many school records at the American International School. During my 5 years on the team, my times dropped dramatically and are continuing to drop each year.
At the end of my Freshman year, my family transferred back to the United States (Mattawan, Michigan). I immediately joined a club swim team (Portage Aquatic Club). I started attending USA swim meets. During these meets, I started to see my times drop almost every meet.
Starting in my Sophomore year, I joined the High School Swim Team. I was able to make it to State in my first year of High School swimming. My Junior year was on the 1st team all-Conference and a state qualifier. Due to COVID-19, the State meet was cancelled. My best events are 200 Individual Medley, 50 Free, and 100 Fly.
I have been training this summer in Austin, TX at the Austin Swim Club. Austin is my hometown. My mother had some connection with coaches as she was a former NCAA Division I swimmer for TCU which got me into the program. This intense 7-day a week training, along with dryland, allowed me to maintain my competitive edge. I’m looking forward to the next swim season.
Finally, I am planning to swim competitively in college. I love everything about swimming from the competition, to teamwork, and physical fitness. I hope that my profile will fit within the values of your University. I truly believe my late start in competitive swimming will be an upside for your swim team. I’m a hard worker and want to constantly improve.
Thank you for your consideration and I am very interested in your university swimming team,
Benjamin Jacob
