My name is Nathan Wagner. As a senior at Lincoln High School, it is clear to me that personal bests are more than just achieving solid swim times. Success comes from hard work both in the pool as well as in the classroom. That is why I am seeking a college offering a nationally competitive swim program and a challenging mechanical engineering degree plan.
Swim camps at Hillsdale College and the University of Michigan, as well as participating in a Peter Vanderkaay clinic, have helped ignite my passion for competitive swimming and pushed me to follow my dream of qualifying at the Olympic trials for Rio 2016. Though I've only been a competitive swimmer for five years, the skills, determination and perseverance I’ve learned as a swimmer have helped me support my community as a lifeguard, youth swim instructor and captain of my Varsity swim team for the past two years.
After almost ten years as a Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout has been one of my proudest accomplishments. Boy Scouts has taught me the importance of accountability and responsibility, while strengthening my leadership skills. It has also given me the confidence and tools to be a positive role model while working with and educating younger scouts to be future leaders.
I look forward to talking with you about the opportunities on your swim team as well as your Mechanical Engineering program.
