Swimming started for me when I was in middle school. I first did it because my siblings were in it, but without realizing it I began to challenge myself to improve next to my peers and siblings. I remember one of my first goals was to swim faster than how fast our coach would pace along the pool deck. Before I knew it my times were dropping and I felt the rush of achievement. My older siblings and older friends really helped define me. My older siblings ended up not putting there best foot forward in either academics or sports. By watching my siblings, I realized that I always want to try and put my best foot forward and push myself as much as I can.
My true passion for swimming sparked when I was a freshman. This was the year I went to Montevideo with a few older boys. One of them in particular was especially talented, but didn't seem work extremely hard to become even better. He ended his swimming career with a 22.72 in the 50 free, his greatest achievement. I looked up to him a lot, but I've always wanted to show him how much hard work can do. I worked every moment of every practice and all the extra practices I did to surpass him. It all paid off because I went from around a 25.00 in my 50 free to a 22.78. Even though I didn't pass him yet, I learned that if I put my mind to something and put in the extra practice from what I've learned, then I can achieve new records that I didn't think I could reach before.
My goals now are to beat as many of our school records as possible, learn as much as I can to improve, and be a great leader for my young team. I want my learning and success in swimming to continue on to a competitive college swim team. I believe the opportunists on a college swim team would allow me to become an even better person and swimmer. Not only do I want to become a better swimmer, but I want to become a better student outside of the pool. I have already been challenging myself with difficult college and AP classes, but I've also surrounded myself with other hardworking students to push me even more. I believe a college swim team would help me outside of the pool to because of their shared dedication to working hard to be the best they can.
