I began swimming when I was 9 years old in a local competitive swimming summer league (Memphis Swim League). I enjoy the sport of swimming because you use your whole body in every event. Compared to my varsity basketball team, the Swim Team affords me the opportunity to participate to make the group better and to compete against myself and make myself a better swimmer, athlete and person. I have learned through swimming to push myself harder to get to the goal - there is no quitting in a race. This helps me do better in other things as well and to be sure that I am doing my best and do not quit before the event is over.
I believe that swimming has helped me set myself up for a better path in my life in general. Lessons from the pool have translated to other tasks in my life such as accomplishing my Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts and participating with my Youth group in ministry opportunities in my community and beyond. I further believe that the path swimming has helped put me on will allow me to succeed at the next level in College. I look forward to being a part of a College level team and helping them be better as well as making myself a better athlete and student. I feel that I can combine success in the pool and success in the classroom to accomplish an awesome College experience that will prepare me for the next steps which are my career, family and life.
