When I was 8 years old, I joined a small LCS swim team at my elementary school. I ended up loving the sport and striving for more, so, I joined the city team, the Laurel Swim Association. I could not be happier with this decision. Being a part of this sport has taught me team leadership and team culture. If I was part of a college swim team, I would bring my skills of working together to ultimately give all to win a swim meet. For instance, relay swims are a big thing for me because it involves 4 people, and I wouldn't want to hinder their racing because of my swimming. This would go for the whole team as well. To me, swimming an individual race isn't as individual as it seems. When I swim a race, I focus not only on my time, but how it would benefit the team as a whole with points.
On my current swim team, I strive to be the hard working and supportive person out of the group. I think this makes a more enjoyable or happier environment for all the swimmers and the coaches. I try to be a positive influence on the younger swimmers as well so they will do the same when they become the older swimmer on the team. My current goals in swimming are quite simple but important; improve my times to be the best swimmer I can be. I love this sport and everything about it, so I am always working hard to be the best I can be at it, even if it involves going to practice 9 times a week and working out 4-6 times a week. My dad once told me this and I think about every time I want to give up, “ What is the easiest thing to do in the world?” “Give up.”
