I have been swimming with a club team since the age of 5. I truly enjoy the sport and the many friendships I have made through swimming. Recently, however, my focus and goals for swimming have changed as my physical self is changing. As a freshman, I started high school at five feet tall and less than 100 pounds. Some of my peers and competitors were physically years ahead of me, in height, muscle mass, and facial hair! In addition, I am also one of youngest in my grade. Still, I kept with the sport and managed to be a decent competitor.
As I enter my junior year, I now stand 5'10" and 145 pounds, and am still growing. When I enter college, I will be only 17. Because my physical self is just starting to catch up with my peers, I feel my best swim times are still to come, probably in college for me. Physically, I have yet to add muscle mass to my frame but it is only a matter of time. I am excited to see what these physical changes bring and how it will be reflected in more time drops. I have recently been promoted to our club's National Team, as my coach also has confidence that my full potential is yet to come. My high school swim coach knows I am a hard worker and I am a current Captain of our high school team as a junior.
I work hard in practice and never shy away from a set. In addition, I carry a full academic load with four AP classes and two honors classes. I try to maintain a balance within my busy schedule for even more extra curricular activities that are important to me . I am currently a member of The Boy Scouts of America and an Eagle Scout. I am a member of the Young Men's Service League and have served as the past President and current Vice President. This is a Mother/Son volunteer service organization that benefits philanthropies in our local community.
I would like to be given the chance to extend my swimming career into college, where I feel my best times are yet to come. I feel that I am a work in progress and that under the right guidance, I will reach my peak in my college years where I can be of benefit to a swim program. I hope that I may be given that chance.
