Hi! My name is Alex Gorakine and I’m currently a junior at Fair Lawn High School in NJ.
I began my swimming career just a few years ago at the age of 12. At the time I was swimming in my backyard pool using a tether for resistance. This experience made me very passionate about swimming and I decided to pursue it on a competitive basis. My favorite events are 200 Fly and 400/500 Free.
Prior to swimming, I practiced judo for six years and won first place in the NJ State Championship within my age group. Judo helped develop my muscle and mental strength and set me up for success in swimming. I joined an excellent swim team – "Scarlet Aquatics", which had talented coaches and a rigorous training schedule. I also combined swimming with routine strength training at the gym. This approach has led to major improvements in my results, and yet I am still very far from reaching my full potential in swimming
Besides swimming, I also maintain a strong focus on my studies and excel academically. My current goals are to get enrolled into a college with a selective swim team, to be a great teammate and to keep improving my personal best times.
