Throughout my life, I have been told to always work hard and aspire to be whatever it is that I wish to be. Although all of this did help me succeed, I was never taught the pain of defeat. What it truly feels like to fail. But instead of looking back on the failures and looking at them as a disadvantage, I took advantage of these failures and used them to further succeed in what I love doing most.
Throughout my swimming career, there have been ups and there have been downs. Whether its getting a personal best at a meet, or not reaching the goal you've set for yourself. I personally had set goals for myself last year that I did not achieve. I struggled with dealing with this loss, but I learned to pick myself up and use this failure as motivation. A push to get what i wanted the next year. I worked 10x harder in the off season. I started swimming all year round, trained for a triathalon and joined a completely new team. In the end I did reach my goals. I achieved what I wanted to achieve. I use these same methods throughout my academic career as well. I am very hard working and understand the importance of a well developed academic career. I fully understand that it is one of the most important aspects of my life right now and I treat it as such. In order to succeed later in my life, I need to take the opportunity to work hard in school, as well as swimming. I hope that these characteristics will aid me in going to a school where I can both learn and become a better athlete.
