My name is Justin Stouffer, and I am a senior at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Arizona. I have played varsity tennis on our team since I was a freshman, and this is my second year as team captain. My goals are to play tennis for a college I love, that has a good environment as well as a strong reputation in my desired major.
Ever since I was a little kid, technology has fascinated me. I started out taking apart things like clocks, RC cars, and calculators until it eventually led me to computers where I learned about software and programming. This passion for technology and programming has shaped me to become who I am today, as well as my passion for tennis. I started when I was 6 years old because of my dad, who played tennis his whole life. He taught me the basics of the game, and from there on I was coached by Brian Cheney, Will White, and Rob Millsop, and I knew that I loved the game. I've learned that tennis is a sport you can play your entire life and that it is a mental game more than anything. It has taught me to become mentally tough; I realized that I can only depend on myself and no one else when I am out on the court and that I am the only one that can change the outcome of the game. I tend to do well under pressure, as it motivates me to win that much more. I have a side business stringing my own racquets and hope to find a job coaching little kids over the summer.
I do not believe that my ranking reflects my athletic ability or skill accurately because although I play tournaments, I am not home schooled and I have not spent my whole junior career focused solely on tournament play. I've striven to be a well-rounded person that also excels academically and gives back to my community. It is important to have balance in your life.
My academic goals for high school are to maintain straight A's, and do the same in college. I am a very outgoing person and can make friends easily, no matter where I go. I would like to go to a college where I can balance my involvement in tennis with my classes, and social life. I would prefer schools that are generally located in the western half of the U.S., but I am keeping an open mind.
