My name is Ben Cowan from Redlands California. I am a senior at Redlands Easy Valley High School and I plan to study chemical engineering in college.
I have been playing tennis for the last 5 years. I have taken 6th period tennis class all 4 years of high school where I practice every day. In addition I practice and condition every day after school for 2-3 hours. On the weekend I take private lessons and practice with team mates. I have made major progressions in my game for example a 110 mph flat serve, an excellent kick serve, and an inside out forehand. Junior year was my year to compete as one of the top 3 at my school, but when covid canceled our season, I realized I would not have the opportunity to reach my competition goals. However, I never stopped working on my own to keep up my conditioning and practice.
I am an organized, self-driven, disciplined student and athlete. My calm and focused demeanor is an asset for the team. My coaches selected me as the Girl's Tennis team manager in Fall 2019 and assisted with coaching new players. I am an Eagle Scout and I have held many positions in my troop including senior patrol leader. Through scouting I have demonstrated myself as a leader as well as working with a team. I completed an internship this last summer with a chemical engineer in the pulp and paper industry. This was a great experience and reinforced my goal to study chemical engineering.
I look forward to working hard and playing tennis in college.
