Dear former Coaches and everyone else who visits my profile page,
My name is Martin Mejia Orrego, a former Colombian student-athlete at IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. IMG not only became my new home, but it also became the place where thanks to the love and inspiration my coaches, family members, teachers, and friends cultivated in me, it made me who I really am today. I'm often characterized by my leadership, my hard work, and for helping those in need whenever I can. This year, I was part of the FIRST EVER CREATED Student Player Council at IMG Academy. I was also nominated for the Nick Bollettieri Student-Athlete of the Year and won the Helpful Heart award for two straight years. As a former Colombian raised in a special environment, I learned not everyone has the same opportunities that some of us have, and in order to help the people in Colombia who couldn't play tennis due to lack of resources, I created a charity foundation called "Tennis For Colombia" where I collected all sorts of sports equipment from the IMGA community. After 4 intense months, I gathered more than 70 tennis racquets, 30 pairs of shoes and tons of tennis apparel. I was also part of the National Junior Honor Society in grades 8th and 9th and I was part of the National Honor Society in grades 11th. Changing topics, I would love to talk about my tennis experience. I am currently a 10 UTR, however, at IMG Academy we play 2 UTR matches every week, meaning, by the end of my Senior year, I'm expected to be an 11 UTR. I consider myself as a solid basline player that really likes to dominate points with my forehand and finish points at the net. I practice every day for more than 4 hours (7:30-10:30, 5-6:30). My coaches and friends often decide to call me a "Grinder" because I really like fighting every point and I really like competition.
I really hope I can hear from you soon!
