A turning point in my tennis career came when I was selected to play on the varsity boys tennis team as an eighth grader. Tennis has always been one of my favorite sports, and the promotion to the varsity boys tennis team motivated me to set goals for my tennis career. The first goal was to become the number one cede player on the team. The second goal was to become an active team leader. Over the next few years, I became more committed to my training and began working with a private coach. I wanted to focus my athletic activities on tennis, so I stopped swimming on the varsity swim team at school. This all paid off for me as I achieved the number one position on my tennis team my junior year. I was fortunate to hone my leadership skills through participation in programs such as Desire to Lead, volunteering at USTA tournaments, and being elected to leadership positions in various school clubs and organizations. These opportunities prepared me to be the tennis team captain. I am especially proud that I was selected by the coach for this role in my junior year. Typically, team captains at my school were selected in their senior years. In addition to achieving these goals, I made sure my academics remained a priority. I have worked hard to maintain a high grade point average of 4.7 and membership in the National Honor Society. My next goal is to play tennis at the collegiate level for an academically strong college.
