Isaac Eck '17 Recruiting Profile

I am looking forward to the competition and camaraderie of college tennis. For me, college tennis is not the end of the line, but a stepping stone to the professional tennis circuit, just so I can give it a try and have no regrets one day when I look back at my tennis career. Because of that goal, I believe I would be a good candidate for college teams that want players like myself who are coachable, excellence-oriented, and know the meaning of perseverance.

Because my family did not have the financial resources to pay for training at an early age (I have five siblings), I mainly self-coached by watching matches and getting as close as I could to private training sessions so I could overhear tidbits of instruction I could apply to my technical game to improve. Once I turned 14, my mother arranged for private lessons with a coach and I have made tremendous strides playing "catch-up" in the technical area. This is the reason I do not have the national and sectional rankings of my peers, because those rankings are sort of skewed toward those who get the head start I did not. I am not making excuses, but want to point out that I have taken sets off of four-star players and players ranked within the top 100, despite my having just two stars on tennisrecruiting.com

My last year and a half at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy has helped me take my game to a new level, and I know I would be an asset to any college team that values a great work ethic and strong character.
