My name is Timmy McNulty. I am currently proud to be a Senior at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, IN. I join the 3 generations of my family members before me (on both parents sides) to graduate from Cathedral. I come from a large and very close extended family. I have one older brother one younger sister and one younger brother. My parents have raised us in a home with strong moral values, realistic & attainable expectations, discipline, accountability for our actions., and an abundance of unwaivering love and support. My upbringing is the foundation on which everything I set out to do is built. It has given me confidence and courage ,the ability to work through controversy, problem solve, think critically, be compassionate, maintain my integrity, and conquer my goals.
I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old and played my first USTA tournament shortly after I began taking lessons. My mom did not know how the tournament process worked. She thought that 14 and under meant the player had to be under 14 to play in the tournament so she signed me up for my first tournament in the !4U's. I was the only 7 year old playing in that tournament. I continued to play in clinics, private lessons, and USTA Tournaments with great success until I was 13. I decided to take a break to play other sports until my Sophomore year in High School.I enjoyed playing for my high school team that year and my Junior Year, but it wasn't until this past summer that I realized how much I missed competing on a higher level. My passion and desire to compete, utilize my talent and succeed on the court came back full force. I worked hard on the court in and the weight room all summer. My hitting coach is a local Division 1 College Tennis Coach. In addition to hitting with him, I hit weekly with a Division 1 tennis player. I played countless matches, practiced daily with my high school team and played in one CIT Tournament.
My goal is to become an key contributor to a College Tennis Program. I plan to share my talents on the court while being afforded the opportunity to succeed in the classroom. I am proud of my ability to share my leadership skills on the court, especially as tennis is viewed as an individual sport. I am a fierce competitor. I plan to study Physical Therapy. After College I plan to focus in the area of Sports Medicine.
Sports and athleticism have always come easy to me. The same is not true for academics. I have always had to work hard in the classroom. Harder than most others and I have always done just that. I attack my school work as I would a competitive sports event. Winning in the classroom is as important to me as defeating every sports opponent I face. I have been employed at the same country club since I was in seventh grade. My first year, I started as a caddy. By the end of the summer I had earned Honor Caddy Status. I continue to work as a caddy and in the bag room.
Given the opportunity, I am confident that I will be a valued part of a competitive college tennis program. Considering my role as a leader, my strong work ethic. my positive attitude, my loyal nature and my burning desire to compete to win, I feel that I set myself apart from other recruits. I look forward to having my actions lend truth to my words!
