Personal Statement
My Background:
My name is Christopher Jack Watkins, but I am more commonly called CJ. I have grown up (and am still growing), an hours drive from Melbourne, in the regional city of Geelong. I am the youngest of five siblings, and grew up around my local tennis club, where I forged the strongest friendships, and learnt some of the most valuable lessons of life. Although, I am lucky enough to say I have had a pretty positive upbringing, adversity and change are no surprise to me, and every day I seek new challenges.
My Philosophy:
In life, I have grown to live by my own ideology. A key aspect of this is that I don't seek to gain for myself - some say money is wealth, others that time is wealth, and many that health is wealth. And although, I believe in all of these to a degree, but the most important value in life is what you can do for others, if you can help someone else have a good day, then that's a successful day. I believe this approach also allows for personal growth towards athletic, academic and spiritual goals.
My Collegiate Goals:
For the last few years, I have dreamt of attending a college in the US, on a tennis scholarship. I am academically inclined, and believe this directly affects my approach to tennis - I like to learn. I may not be the strongest athlete, but I am willing to learn to get closer to what coaches want of me. I believe learning comes from listening, practicing, and working. I have also been captain of my junior tennis teams frequently, and enjoy being the glue that keeps the team together, even when we are in a bad spot of form. I frequently try to remind my teammates that we don't want to leave anything out on the court, because we don't just fight for ourselves, to boost our UTR or ranking - but we fight for each other. Even in the toughest of losses, I find refuge in knowing that all parties involved gave absolutely everything they could. I love tennis, and will always shoot for the moon, because even if I don't make it, I will land amongst the stars.
I appreciate any attention from any coaches willing to consider me in their recruitment processes, thankyou.
