Personal Statement
Nick Velders is a nineteen-year-old boy who grew up in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. In October 2021, he moved to Dolores, Spain, with his parents and dog. Nick is social and athletic and likes to help other people. He is very goal orientated and he works hard to achieve it.
In addition to playing tennis, Nick played soccer until the combination of school, tennis, and soccer became impossible at the age of 14.
Nick graduated high school (Havo level) in July of 2021. He is very interested in majoring in sports sciences to support and guide top athletes when he graduates. Nick is fluent in English, Dutch, and also his Spanish is improving every day.
Athletic information
Nick is a really quick player, with excellent footwork and heavy shots on the forehand. He has the ability to adapt his game and his disguised drop shots are a weapon. In addition to singles, he also has a lot of experience in doubles play. Nick likes playing in a team, the team spirit makes him feel stronger and gives him more confidence.
Since his move to Spain, Nick started practicing 5 times a week instead of 2 and as a result, he has booked a lot of progression. In Spain, he also played in some competitive tournaments with opponents from all over the world. Unfortunately, these tournaments were not UTR-certified. He currently holds a UTR of 9.67. To best prepare for college tennis, he is working out in the gym to make himself stronger and keep his body in a good condition.
