I would like to attend college to acquire a degree in computer science. I like to face challenges and keep my goals high. I intend to try my best and to love to learn. My brother (12 years older than me) is the reason I am interested in computer science and I would love to succeed in this career path as he has. He has been at jobs with a few startup tech companies like Factual and bigger companies like Google and Microsoft. Working for one of those tech companies sounds so much cooler to me than most corporate jobs.
I am well equipped for adversity as I have grown tremendously since COVID 19 started. I had been at the lowest points in my life during the first year of COVID, which included my grades dropping, the amount of time playing tennis diminishing, and my newly found anxiety showing up. This all resulted in a big drop in my confidence. During the last week of this past summer though, I attended a tennis academy in Florida (Gabe Jaramillo’s Tennis Academy at Club Med). There, I was in an environment far outside of my comfort zone. Being uncomfortable I was able to learn that that itself is where my growth comes from; dealing with discomfort, moreover, liking the discomfort of pushing myself. By seeing the growth I made in that week it gave me a huge confidence boost in terms of believing in myself and believing that I really am capable of growing. With more confidence I again feel that I can overcome barriers in my life. I have been able to accomplish so much for myself like increasing my ACT score, doing well in classes, growing in tennis, and even cleaning my room. The most important change being that my mental state has become something that helps rather than hinders me.
