Since the age of 7, I was torn between whether to play baseball or tennis. I was a lefty who batted righty and proved to be a very strong player. As I began to grow up, I got bored of standing in the outfield and I had to make a change in my athletic career. When my mom signed me up for a tennis camp in my former hometown of Yardley, I was really excited to get out there and run my heart out and that is exactly when I knew tennis was my sport. I have always had the fighting spirit and the passion to play and I always knew in my mind I wanted it more than the other kids on the court. When I started to participate in drills and privates, I knew I was not the best and that the only way to improve was to work at such a young age to develop mental and physical habits and routines.
A little secret I have always kept with me is that because I am a lefty, I believe I see the court a little differently than the other players. Sometimes, I will hit these crazy angles and passing shots and my coach will say how did you see that play and I will say, I saw the angle, he did not. When I played my first tournament at the age of 10, I had this adrenaline that would not stop and my heart kept beating with this excitement to get out and play. I ended up winning the tournament and my family and I were so excited for the journey to begin. Looking back on that tournament 10 years later, I remind myself why I train the way I do every day and why I work as hard as I do. I learned how to love failure because it is only the first step to succeeding. Lastly, I enjoy playing doubles as much as singles. College tennis looks absolutely amazing and the atmosphere out there is incredible. I cannot wait to start my college journey majoring in special education while playing tennis!!
