Personal Statement

I am a 3 sport athlete who is looking for a challenging academic and athletic environment.  My goal is to acquire a history major with an education masters in preparation for a career as a high school or post secondary history teacher. I firmly believe that challenges in the classroom and in sports, help me build the foundation for the challenges that I will face in my career and life. I value hard work  and understand how this is a key to success.  You get out what you put in.  This is evident by my accomplishments in the classroom and on the court.  Academically, I am in the top 10% of my class while taking several challenging AP and Honors classes.  Athletically,  I started tennis just 5 years ago.  Through hard work and dedication, I was able to become the 1st singles on our high school championship team..  I will continue to apply this hard work attitude in every aspect of my college experience, both academically and athletically .  I understand the value in learning from my mistakes, and I am extremely coachable.  Core values of my character are honesty, respect and dignity. I prioritize extremely well and structure my weeks to ensure I am successful in every aspect of my life. Academics have always come before my athletics.  I am very active in the community and church, becoming the youngest member of our church vestry and working monthly at a Camden, NJ soup kitchen.  I am very enthusiastic and optimistic in whatever I go after, yet understand humility and empathy. I have been fortunate to be selected by our teachers as student of the month 2x in high school and once in middle school.   As mentioned previously, my goals for my collegiate career are to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to compete and succeed in my career field as well as continue to grow as an individual. I'm confident my character, leadership and athletic skills will be an asset for any college team.  I look forward to speaking to you in the future on how I can become a valuable asset to your team and university.
