I am a senior in high school in Pelham, Ontario, across the lake from Toronto. I started playing tennis seriously when I was 14, abandoning a promising run as a regional-level soccer player.
Tennis was inevitable as I am representing the third generation of my family in the sport. My grandfather is a Canadian tennis legend and my parents have both had notable careers in tennis.
In the past two years, I have improved dramatically, as shown by a rapid rise up the rankings, both provincially and nationally. In January 2018, as I entered U16, I was ranked #136 in Ontario and #400 in Canada. Today, as I begin my first year in under 18, I am ranked #35 in Ontario and #80 in Canada. My goal is to reach the top 25 in Canada and the top 10 in Ontario before I graduate from junior tennis.
My current UTR is now 10.33 in singles and 10.58 in doubles, and I feel my upward trajectory will continue. Although I an all-court player, I grew up playing doubles with my family and am one of the few competitors in the Ontario scene who is very comfortable at the net. I have gained a reputation as a strong doubles player, and I am proud of that.
My next level will come with increased power. In the past 12 months, I’ve begun to work out regularly and eat consciously, and the power is coming without impacting my form. I grew 6 inches (to 6') over this past year and as my body fills out (I still only weigh 140 lbs), I look forward to many more free points.
My grades have consistently been in the 90s. I wrote the SAT in October and am pleased with my score of1280. My goal is to find a balance between a strong academic experience and a close-knit, competitive tennis team. I’m excited to contribute to a successful and healthy team culture.
