This is my fourth season competing on the Corning High School Track and Field team. As a freshman, I placed second in our division in the 300m hurdles and was awarded the Fighting Cardinal which exemplifies never giving up and being a leader. As a sophomore, I earned the first place spot in our division for the 300m hurdles. Last year as a junior I was recognized as the Outstanding Runner on the Varsity squad and earned the Fighting Cardinal award once again. For the past three years, CUHS had a dirt track. For this reason many of the practices took place on the football field due to track conditions. This is my fourth season running the 110m and 300m hurdles. My current 300m PR is 43.60 and my goal is to be at 42 by season's end. I believe I can attain these goals because an all-weather track and up-to-date facilities were recently installed.
Last season was the first time I tried pole vaulting. At the first meet I vaulted 8'6 but by the end of the season my PB increased to 11'6, using an approach of running with my pole on the runway.
In Spring of 2017 I received an invitation from the University of Kansas to attend their pole vault camp which I did in December by doing a fundraising campaign to make it financially possible. While there, the coaching staff assisted me in fixing my approach and I now run with my pole in the vertical position. In January 2018 I attended the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV where I met several Olympic athletes who gave me insight on how to perfect my swing up and motivated me to perform better. Because of these camp experiences and an adjustment to my current training schedule, my goal is to reach 14' by the end of this season.
I am confident I will be a valuable member to any team on the field and in the classroom. Being a four-year member of CSF, grades and academic performance are very important to me. My dreams of participating on a collegiate team started as a freshman. These dreams is the same today. My plans are to study Kinesiology in college were my love for athletics and an understanding of the human body will come together.
