For as long as I can remember, running has been in my blood. As an active child, I often climbed things and got myself in trouble because I was so active. I tried Baseball, soccer, football but nothing gave me the thrill of competition like running. From Cross Country, where I am part of a larger team and we help each other to win, to Track where I compete against myself, I am an athlete. I am focused on being the best I can be and being a team player who always helps others to do their best. Even though I struggled with dyslexia as a kid, I learned how to overcome it and how to learn in more effective ways. I have learned patience from my youngest brother, who is deaf and autistic, because he needs things repeated and done in different ways.
Being respectful and appreciative and focused are perhaps the most important traits an athlete can have, as I know I must be all of these in order to succeed in the larger game of life. While going to college and getting a degree will benefit me in many ways, none of that matters if my character is flawed. Cross Country and Track require determination in order to get up and out there day after day, mile after mile and train, even when all your friends are sleeping in or at the beach. I have committed myself to be the best I can be in life and I plan to take that with me as a start on my college journey.
