Personal Statement

Dear Coach,

My name is Brock Adams and I am a junior at Santiago High School in Corona, California. I am 6'2" and I weigh 150 pounds. MY GPA is 4.53, my class rank is 48 out of 910 students, and I achieved the highest honor roll every semester. I also received the Scholar Athlete Award in 2019 as well the Riverside County Office of Education Academic-Athletic Team Award in 2018. I earned, in addition to the academic accolades, Santiago High School's Academic Leadership Award in 2018-2019 and I was accepted to the National Student Leadership Conference and to the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Camp.

My fastest three-mile cross-country time is 15:24.5, which I achieved my junior year at age sixteen in the Dana Hills Nike Invitational. During my sophomore track season, in which I was fifteen years old, I ran a personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.72 and a personal best of 9:38.34 in the 3200 meters. Due to the mandated school closures in 2020, I only ran one 1600 meter race, but I was able to accomplish a personal best of 4:27.84. My coach Rick Ethridge and I believe that if the season continued, I would have run under 4:20 in the 1600 meters, under 1:59 in the 800 meters, and under 9:25 in the 3200 meters.

I always strive to be the best team captain and teammate possible, which can only be accomplished through non cliché leadership qualities. When it comes to running, the best leaders are those who provide inspiration for their teammates to soak up like a sponge. I find the perfect way to inspire people is through my quick wit and supportive humor. Through my sense of humor, I have been able to lower tensions amongst teammates, improve team chemistry and moral, get teammates to see life from different perspectives as well as enable our team to visualize long term team goals by creating a highly spirited narrative of our expectations for the season.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your time.

Brock Adams
