I was 5 feet 6 inches and 90 pounds as a 13 year old freshman. Nobody believed the big dreams of this scrawny little kid. Yet, there I was, 2 years later, standing 6 feet tall, competing in a televised meet, at UC Berkeley. As I hit that perfect penultimate step, I soared through the air reminiscing on the hours of quality work I put in for this moment. As a freshman, I joined my school's track and field team and dedicated my time towards long jump and triple jump. I wanted to break the school records with jumps of 23 feet and 48 feet. With hard work and diligence, from my freshman year to my junior year, I improved my long jump mark from 16 feet to 22 feet and my triple jump mark from 38 feet to almost 46 feet. Jumping is one of my greatest talents but I think that my drive and my work ethic outweigh my natural jumping ability. If it wasn't for my dedication, my jumps wouldn't have improved as much as they did. As my high school career is coming to an end, I realize that I will be a freshman again. I'll have new goals and new destinations. Competing at UC Berkeley was an amazing experience but the next destination will be an even greater feat to accomplish - the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
