Hi coaches, My name is Zain Syed and I want to thank you for viewing my profile. I have been doing sports for almost all my life, starting from elementary back in around 2010, and worked my way up to get to a place I thought I would never achieve. As a boy, I’ve been into basketball and track and field, but I always felt Track and Field was a way to figure out my true-self. Making it all the way to the Junior Olympics in 2011 as a young boy really built my character and influenced my life. Not only has it determined me to work harder in sports, it improved my goals and aspects in school as well as in my life. During elementary, I achieved a perfect score on the CST math section of 600/600 for the years 2013 and 2014. After elementary, I saw a drastic shift in my personality, as I was performing outstandingly well in school, constantly earning straight A’s, and improving my inner persona as an individual. I also have volunteered in a nonprofit organization to feed the homeless multiple times in downtown LA where we prepared food and drinks for them. I realized after all my experiences, that there needs to be a balance, and everything I do in life contributes to my character. Through Track and Field, I learned that I possessed unique beneficial characteristics like being active, energetic, a good leader and persistent. I also learned that whenever I put my mind to something , it is very much possible for me to reach a new level in my life with new skills and traits that puts me aside from the rest, which I don't hesitate to do like others. Anyone else could say this too, but I have seen the results with past experiences of Track and Field, Basketball, Video Games, and school. With this progression, I am able to display the best version of myself, in sports, academics, and even in the outside world. I have always been in a battle within myself to figure out who I really am, what I’m fit best for, but my experiences have provided a balance and seemed to be a source of guidance for myself.
Aside from my goal for Track and Field, my academic goal for High School is mainly to outshine all the other students in my classes, and be recognized for my determination and my grades. In High School, I really hope to maintain my grades and learn more than what I know of now in order to graduate and get into a great university. In University, I hope to get into Medical School, and hopefully learn more about the science of humans and the functionality of certain body parts. To get to where I am now, there have been countless obstacles that define and shape the person I am today. A very tough obstacle was making a sacrifice and commitment to track and field when I started. I had to go to practice everyday after school, then go to my religious classes, go home at around 6 or 7 pm, and finally have time to catch up on work. Indeed this was a struggle as I questioned my capabilities and my actual goals on wanting to continue track and field and improve my academic life. It turns out that all of it was worth it because I set my mind to it, and I accomplished what I thought was impossible. I made a name for myself in track and field, I got straight A’s, and I learned many life skills in the process. Of these life skills, the majority of them define who I am. I have an urge to be a leader amongst a group who are lost and don’t know what to do. I don’t back down when I’m told to do something, as I am respectful and obedient to many of my peers, acquaintances, and friends. I am very determined to finish a task that isn’t done, and I have the ability to communicate peacefully with those that dislike me or see me as an enemy. When any problem or conflict is present, I solve many of them quickly and find a way out which benefits myself and even others. I’m sure I’m not a perfect human being with the perfect expectations everyone looks for, but through my experiences and obstacles, I realize that the qualities I possess push me forward in my life and constantly change me which helps me stand out from other people.
