My bumpy road to success
I am Jonathan Burton and trying to become the best at my craft has not been easy. As I continue down my road to competing in college I have realized roadblocks are just something I need to get used to. When I was in 7th grade I ran unattached in 2011 that's when I knew I had potential because that was my first year seriously running and I qualified for the Jr. Olympics in Wichita Kansas and placed 6th overall in the country. I was set on a good path but then my dedication was put to the test when one day while I was walking my dog another dog came and bit a chunk out of my leg and that injury stopped me from running for about three months and at that point I thought my dreams had been crushed but I kept fighting and pushing myself and two years past which came my freshman year of high school and I was blessed to make the varsity team as a hurdler. Everything seemed to be going in my favor I was the third fastest hurdler and placed 3rd in our conference but I fell short of cif and was ready to push myself to make it make it to cif my sophomore year. Sadly a few weeks before the season was starting I was in practice and pulled a muscle in my hip but I was so stuck on trying no to get left behind that I kept going hard in practice even though I had an injury. This only made it worse and eventually I was out the rest of the season. So finally I gave it a chance to heal and once I was healthy I trained ruthlessly in hopes of coming back strong for my junior year. My hard work had paid off and I had made it to cif qualifications but fell short by one tenth of second. Now it's my last year and I have been training to assure myself a spot ever since the season ended. I refuse to fall short.
Running track in college would be a dream come true. Ever since I was 10 running at the next level was at the top of my list of personal goals. My goal is to make to a school that's a good fit for me and allows me to grow as an athlete, a student, and a person.
I feel that I can be a great potential candidate for any school because I don't mind being coached, I listen intently and take what coaches say very serious. Also I feel I can overcome just about any hardship and I never ever quit or cut anything short.
