My sophomore year was my first opportunity to put time in on the track. Immediately, I fell in love with sprinting. I love the feeling of moving fast and the adrenaline during a race is rewarding beyond what I’ve found in other sports. As I progressed through my first track season and set new school records in the 100m, 200m, and as part of the 4X100m team, I knew I had found my place. This realization was reinforced when competing in CIF Masters and the Junior Olympics.
Although I have played thousands of hours of team sports (club- and varsity-basketball, baseball, soccer, flag football, roller hockey), the community that a track team creates is unlike anything I’ve experienced. Some of my best memories are with my team at meets and practices where we all support and motivate each other. That moment after a race where competitors share the success (and pain) at the finish line with a handshake and congratulations is incomparable.
What makes me a good athlete to have on a team? I am very competitive, and I use that to motivate me to work harder, run better and get faster. I am well-rounded, positive, and social and I try to find ways to get along with everyone on my team. I am someone who can easily step into leadership roles by setting examples for others to follow. I welcome criticism and coaching because I want to improve. I am a strong and self-motivated student; my cumulative GPA is currently 4.40 and coaches do not worry about what I am doing off-the-field. My other interests include classical and electric guitar, mountain biking, skiing, and bodyboarding. My favorite subject in school is chemistry and I hope to pursue a STEM-related degree and career.
In high school, I look forward to improving my times in my junior and senior seasons, adding new races to my skill set, and delivering a championship banner to my school. Beyond high school, my love of track, love of learning and the appreciation I have for a track community has led me to realize that I want to run collegiate-level track. Thank you for considering me for your team.
