When I joined my middle school's Cross Country team in sixth grade, I had no idea that same sport would become an integral part of my life. The grueling year round routine was filled with challenging workouts and rejuvenating recoveries six days a week, and that's part of the reason the sport was so appealing. The unequivocal amount of effort required to prepare for races and steadfast team bonds were a light that seemed to outshine the offerings of other sports, and made the victories to come infinitely more hard-fought, substantial, and memorable. I climbed this mountain of difficulty with grit and determination, for the good of my sport, my team, and simply just to prove I could. My workouts have evolved and improved as I progressed through my seasons, and now I spend five hours every day after school doing a combination of running and weight room exercises, as well as pool workouts and runs on weekends. I have competed in the sport for all four years of high school, climbing from the position of a leading frosh/soph runner to that of a competitive Varsity runner to Team Captain my senior year.
My love for constantly improving to solve a problem is shown not only in my running, but in my passion for engineering. In the future, I look for a school that can satiate this desire with a great engineering program, while complementing it with an athletic program that suits my needs. I truly believe that I would succeed as a college student athlete because my steadfast spirit of competition and unyielding dedication allow me to flourish in any situation. Whatever the situation, I adapt to succeed. No matter what the future holds, I am positive my tenacity is a flame that will help illuminate any team.
